Earth Rise

Earth Rise is a collaborative practice between Vanessa Baskin and Skye Ruozzi. Informed by their personal practices in architecture, sculpture, and regenerative agriculture, Earth Rise is dedicated to creating spaces that embody care, presence, and ecological awareness. Through participatory bioconstruction, we work with raw, locally sourced materials—clay, stone, sand, and plant fibers—to create structures that are in dialogue with the land. Our workshops invite individuals and organizations to engage with traditional building methods, fostering group collaboration and deepening relationships with natural materials.

Guided by the interplay between void and form, our practice transforms excavation from an extractive act into one of care. We shape sculptural spaces that hold memory and resonance, designed not just for shelter but for reflection, gathering, and renewal. Drawing from ancestral techniques and contemporary ecological discourse, Earth Rise reimagines how we build—centering sustainability, ecological resilience, and the communal act of creation. Our work is both tactile and conceptual, an offering to the land and a testament to the power of collective making.

Vanessa Baskin

Vanessa Baskin is a multidisciplinary artist whose work seamlessly weaves together landscape architecture, bioconstruction, and ecological restoration. Growing up near the lush jungles of the Philippines, she developed a deep connection to nature that continues to shape her artistic practice. While studying coastal dunes as an undergraduate researcher in the Northeast, she earned a degree in Scientific Illustration, laying the foundation for her fusion of art and ecology.

Her diverse experience spans large-scale art fabrication, landscaping, regenerative farming, and bioconstruction. These disciplines naturally converge in her commitment to community outreach and activism, which informs her distinctive approach to ecological art. Vanessa creates immersive, sculptural spaces that blend sustainably sourced natural and repurposed materials, mimicking nature’s own intelligence. Through her work, she fosters collaboration, education, and environmental awareness, crafting art that not only restores landscapes but also strengthens the communities that engage with them.

Skye Ruozzi

Skye Ruozzi is an architectural designer, builder, and artist working at the intersection of ecological design, participatory architecture, and spatial justice. She integrates environmental ethics with technical expertise, using architecture as a medium for connection, transformation, and resistance. Her work engages local materials—clay, straw, timber, and stone—not only for their ecological potential but as tools for cultivating shared knowledge and place-based practices.

With years of experience in architectural design, building code consultancy, and collaborative fabrication, Skye moves fluidly between drawing sets and job sites. She has led natural building workshops, interactive installations, and mobile makerspaces across the U.S. and Latin America, partnering with organizations such as the International Design Clinic and Turnaround Arts. Her work has been exhibited internationally and recognized for its focus on community engagement and design for the common good.

Whether drafting legalization drawings for artist live-work spaces or guiding participatory builds in the field, Skye’s practice bridges technical rigor with visionary experimentation. She is committed to cultivating built environments that are not only structurally sound, but socially rooted, ecologically responsive, and open to collective imagination.
